Raymond Leo Wood, 87, of Vinton, born April 5, 1929 in Vinton, VA. to Charles & Sallie (Hill) Wood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Raymond married the love of his life, Bettie Lee Thomason on a snowy night at Goodview Baptist Church on December 22, 1951. He was a loving father to two daughters, Janet (Bill) Tyree and Mary Ann (Darrell) Craighead. Raymond enjoyed time with his “sons” Bill & Darrell, playing with British cars. He also loved his grandchildren, Dustin Ray (Emerald) Harmon and Dana (Joshua) Montgomery and his great-granddaughter, Cadence Faith Harmon. Raymond was the rock of the family and was always ready to help someone in need. He always looked for the “gold” in people.
Raymond was predeceased by brothers and sisters; Joseph Wood, Silas Wood, Charles Wood, Virgie Poff, Lucille Stump and Ruth Bolling. He was the youngest of eight children, survived only by one sister, Julia Wood Harless of Lebanon, VA. He had many wonderful nieces and nephews. He began his career in insurance and ran R. L. Wood Insurance agency most of his adult life.
Raymond loved his family and his church family. The family attended Colonial Baptist Church for many years, and he served his Lord in many capacities. Current membership has been with Vinton Baptist Church who has provided much love and support to the family during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held at Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Chris Monroe. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, VA.
