Obituary

Wesley Woodrow Stevens, 79, of Moneta went to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 9, 2023. He was a son of the late Robert Woodrow and Hilda Stevens. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Vicki Stevens; brother, Dewey Stevens; uncle, John W. Stevens and niece Sheri Shay Stevens.

Wesley worked the farm with his dad until he was 18, where he then worked for Miller Container for 41 years. During that time he joined the Army Reserves in 1962 and served until 1969, then joined the National Guard and retired SSG in 1994. He drove a school bus for Bedford County Public Schools where he retired after 15 years. He was a member of American Legion for the last 19 years and been commander of post 80 for the last 14 years and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He loved his military and his passion was farming. Wesley was a loving husband, father, proud papa and a dear friend to many and will be missed deeply.

He is survived by his sister, Annie Haldren; aunt, Dot and aunt, Nancy; niece and nephews, Lisa Haldren, Stevie Haldren, Scott Stevens; daughter, Brandi Thomas; granddaughters, Kristianna Whorley and husband, Rex and Katelyn Mills; great-grandson, Endymion “Andy”; best friends Charlie, Tony and Jimmy; dear friend, Susie; and other family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at UVA Medical Center, ICU 5th floor for all the genuine and compassionate care given to Wesley.

In lieu of flowers the family asked to make donations to the American Legion, Post 80, PO Box 114, Vinton, Virginia 24179.

A celebration of Wesley’s life will be held at a later date in Spring 2024 at the Steven’s Family Farm Cemetery in Chamblissburg, Virginia with Military Honors.
