Wayne Lee “Johnny” Basham, 86, of Moneta, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020. After giving up a successful construction business and submitting to the Lord, he planted and pastored Faith Life Baptist Church in Montvale for almost 40 years. He was faithful in every sense of the word to serving and living for his Lord and Savior. He loved the Lord, his family, the church, and God’s great outdoors, especially deer and turkey hunting. He was predeceased by his wife, Melva Gillaspie Basham; parents, Oglesby and Madeline Basham; brothers, Robert, Aubrey, Frank, Alcoy, and infant brother, Esker; sisters, Francis Bobbitt, Gertrude Fletcher, Dorothy Layne, Audrey Branch, and Addie Dillon.
Surviving family includes his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mark Jacobs; grandson, M. Hunter Jacobs; sister, Barbara Bostic, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Faith Life Baptist Church in Montvale with Evangelist Jim Critchley and Mr. Roger McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 1, 2021 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton. The family would like to thank the staff at Cardinal Senior Living in Bedford, as well as hospice for their care. Cardinal provided exceptional care and extra attention to Wayne during his stay.
