Obituary

Walter Ezra Stevens, 93, of Moneta VA, died Sunday, April 15, 2018. He was born December 8, 1924 to the late Vernie and Lula Holdren Stevens. Also, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Holdren; grandchildren Michael Taglio, Tammy H. Wingo and Jason Stevens; brother, McKinley Stevens, and sisters, Helen S. Motley, Rosie S. Williams and Mary S. Knight.

He is survived by his son, Glenn (Pat) Stevens; daughters, Linda Huddleston and Trisha (Mike) Taglio; grandchildren, Matt (Lynn) Huddleston, Melanie Stevens, Maribeth (Frank) Throneberry and Sarah (Kolby) Sweat; great-grandchildren, Anna (Steven) Griffin, Olivia Stevens, Kelsey Wingo, Patrick Stevens, Dillon Wingo, Wyatt Huddleston, Jackson and Piper Throneberry; great-great-grandchildren, Ava and Sage Griffin; step great-grandchildren, Carlie Wade, Rebecca (Alec) Brown and Jayden Lee; step great-great-grandchildren, Calvin and Carter Miller and Macon Brown; sisters, Nellie Bowyer and Peggy Brown, and many other family and friends.

Ezra retired after 43 years from Norfolk/Western Railroad. He was a lifelong, active member of Saunders Grove Church of the Brethren and loved to sing Southern Gospel music.

The family cannot thank the staff at English Meadows Elks Campus, Special Care Unit enough for the kindness and loving care they have provided Ezra and Elizabeth Stevens over the past three years. Also, a special thanks to the Good Samaritan Staff who attended them lovingly and respectfully; as well as extended family and friends who regularly visited.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel with Rev. Jim Worline and Rev. Maynard Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Parrish Chapel UM Church Cemetery, in Chamblissburg, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or Saunders Grove Church of the Brethren, 3034 Saunders Grove Dr, Moneta, VA 24121.
