Walter Loyd Simmons

Walter Loyd (WL) Simmons, 89, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy K Simmons and Della Harris, and grandson, Mitchell Loyd Simmons.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kyma Dudley Simmons; four children, Sandra Russell (Sparta NC), Wanda Edwards and husband, Percy (Sparta NC), Karen Bowers and domestic partner, Mike DeLong (Roanoke), and Walter “Loyd” Simmons, Jr and wife, Veronica (Moneta); seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and brother, Harris C. Simmons and wife, Betty.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Shenandoah Baptist Church in Roanoke with Pastor Mark Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton. In lieu of flowers, donations to Stewartsville Rescue Squad are encouraged.
