Virginia Biggs Long

Virginia Biggs Long, 90, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019. She was a long time member of Thrasher United Methodist Church and helped with preparation and serving with the Wednesday community dinner kitchen crew. She was the #1 lettuce chopper. Virginia loved her desserts, cakes, pies, and especially cobbler and anything chocolate. She loved bingo, especially winning, trips to the Greenbrier with her BFF Carolyn McCarty, fun times at the lake, and beach time with her children. Virginia was an excellent bowler and also enjoyed working on ceramics with her friends at the Vinton Senior Center. Most of all, she loved her girls, Sue and Carol. She was proud of them, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a fierce and dominant protector of all of them and they all loved her for always being the family “Rock”. She will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her parents, Pearl Ellen and John Allen Biggs; brothers, Glen Biggs and John Biggs, and sister, Louise McCarty.

Surviving family includes daughters, Sue (Robert) Price, and Carol (Moe) Mattox; grandchildren, Jason (Cindy) Morris, Jenna (Chandler) Creel, and Jared Price, and great-grandchildren, Meghan, Hannah, and Justin Morris.

A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor B. Failes officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM prior to the service. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ashley and Heather of Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their love and care over these past difficult weeks. We would not have made it without them.
