Sheila Lee Bivens

Sheila L Bivens, age 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 28, 2020 at her home in Vinton, VA. She was born July 13, 1951 in Palo Alto, California to R.L. and Ziza Bivens. She lived in California for most of her childhood and moved to Coupeville, Washington in 1968. She was a 1969 graduate of Coupeville High School. After living abroad and in various states of the country, Sheila eventually moved to Vinton, VA to be closer to her youngest son, Robert, and his family.

Sheila was an avid crafter with many pursuits. She was sure to knit blankets and stockings for every new grandchild and great grandchild. Her latest endeavors were with Sassy Stitchers in Vinton, Virginia and quilting blankets for the homeless.

Sheila was a faithful member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA. She was a member of the choir, a prayer warrior, a member of the Young at Hearts, and served in the card writing ministry.

Sheila is survived by her mother, Ziza Bivens and her brother Carl Bivens and his wife Sharon. She was the beloved mother of four children, Patricia Cuthbert and her husband John, James Lindsay, Robert Lindsay and his wife Brandi, and Reina Caron and her husband Blake. She was know as “Grandma” to Katie, Julia, Nathan, Aaron, Caitlyn, McKenzie, Skyler, Drew, Devin and Ryan. She was a Great Grandma to Chase and Magnolia.

Family, friends and others whose lives Sheila touched are invited to Gospel Light Baptist Church, 6307 Cloverdale Rd. Roanoke VA 24019 from 3pm - 4pm on Sunday, July 5, 2020, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course just chat. Meal following the service.
