Ruth Barnes Thurman, 98, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017. She was predeceased by her loving husband of almost 50 years, John Aaron Thurman; parents, Edgar and Alice Barnes; sister, Sadie, and brothers, Edgar, Jr. and Marvin Barnes.

Surviving family includes a special nephew, niece and great niece, James, Judy, and Rita Thurman (caregivers); a host of nieces and nephews; special neighbors, Eunice and Hank Odum, Stuart Thomason, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Thomason, Sr.; long-time friend Ann Scruggs and daughter, Debbie. Special thanks are given to Matthew, Deborah and Christy with Heartland Hospice for their loving care of Aunt Ruth.
