Richard Roland Garrett, 74 of Vinton, passed away after a lengthy illness, February 17, 2023. He was born in Lynn Massachusetts and lived in Vinton for over 47 years. He was a Veteran in the US Army, served in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic.
Worked at Evans Product Co. in Roanoke as head of the maintenance department. He worked for E.L. Lawson Trucking in Roanoke as a driver and maintenance mechanic until his recent retirement. He was the president of the Star City Thunderbird Club and enjoyed taking his restored 1956 Ford Thunderbird to shows in the local area. He was also a member of the American Truck Historical Society and the local Shenandoah Valley Chapter.
He leaves behind his siblings, Charles Garrett and his wife Karen of Clinton MA, Susan Garrett of Manchester NH, John Garrett of Helena Montana and Robert Garrett of Lynn, MA.; nieces, Marilyn Garrett of Winthrop, MA, Sharon Rogers and her husband Keith of Andover, MA; nephew Kenneth Garrett and his wife Julie of Haverhill, MA.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Lotz Vinton Chapel.
