Richard Eugene Burkhart, a proud veteran of the Army, passed away on August 11, 2022 He was the son of Alan Burkhart and Martha Melvin, born on December 21, 1931. Richard grew up in Bluefield, West Virginia. At the age of 18, Richard enlisted into the Army. He valued this service highly and fought in the Korean War. As part of this service, he was wounded by a grenade in active combat and received a purple heart for his valor. Richard was predeceased by his parents Allen Burkhart and Martha Melvin; wives, Sidorthy Burkhart, Marty Burkhart, Doris Burkhart, Ruth Burkhart; children, Eugenia Wilson, Kimberly Burkhart; siblings Claude Burkhart and Jennings Burkhart.
Richard is survived by his children, Patricia Steahly (Butch), Terri Black (Denny), Mary Regina Spears, Larry Burkhart, Jeana Fowler (Matt); siblings, Carol Melvin, Jerry Melvin; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
His loved ones will remember his love and dedication to God, church and his family. Richard refused to allow his age to hinder his life and continued living his way as an avid motorcyclist. A service honoring the life of Richard Burkhart will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2022 at Lake Drive Church of Christ, 1050 VA-24 Byp., Vinton Virginia 24179. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. with Pastor Tommy Blewett officiating.
