Marvin Ray Ransome, born May 25th, 1940, Marvin passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on September 22nd, 2018. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Bessie S. Ransome; his step son, Wayne A. Long; his parents, Raymond B. and Lydia Brown Ransome; his brothers, Gaines Houston and Herman Louis Ransome both of Roanoke.
He is survived by his children, Brenda K Fonseca of Taunton, MA; Melinda M. Griffin (Randy) and Louis H. Ransome (Betty Jo) of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Joseph M. Fonseca and Gregory A. Fonseca (Taylor) of Taunton, MA; Lena M. Atkins (Lonnie) of Woodbridge; Nicholas R. Ransome of Hardy; Jordan M. Ransome (Justin), Randi W. Griffin, Sheena Dove (Daniel), Melanie Laursen (Vaugh), and Jennifer Griffin, all of Rocky Mount. He also has 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Billy of Hardy, Buster and Ben of Roanoke and a sister, Evelyn of Daleville. He has a gaggle of nieces and nephews.
Marvin served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a life long resident of Hardy and Franklin County, enjoying his rural lifestyle of farming and tending to his horses after a life time of tractor trailer driving and working. He was widely known to all his neighbors and loved to ‘chew the fat.’ It was often said that he never met a stranger. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness in Marvin’s memory and tell your parents that you love them.
