Obituary

Mabel Wheeler, 97, of Vinton, went to her heavenly home, Tuesday, March 1, 2022, after a short stay at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton. Prior to her being at Berkshire, she had resided at Elm Park Estates. She was born June 13, 1924, in Bedford, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Tazwell and Ella Boothe. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Marvin Wheeler; brothers, John H. Boothe, Emory W. Boothe, and Nelson H. Boothe along with sister, Ethel B. St.Clair.

Mabel is survived by daughters; Sandra Spradling (Billy) and Connie Sublett (Don, (decd.). As a grandmother, she was lovingly known as Gran and Gruda, by her adoring grandchildren, Jerry Foutz, Jr. (Susan), Jeffrey Foutz (Lisa), Michelle Creasy (decd.; Tim), Angela Perry (Dean), Chere` Witt (Randy), and Kimberly French (Jeff). She was also known as Maw Maw Gran, Gran, and GG by her twelve great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces and three nephews.

Mabel had to drop out of school in seventh grade to help on the farm. Even though she did not complete high school, she was one of the most talented women you would meet. She had numerous talents such as cooking, taking care of her gorgeous flowers and flower garden, sewing and crocheting, care taking, and spoiling her children, grandchildren as well as her great and great-great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to so many. For years she attended Barnhardt Baptist Church and later in life attended Mineral Springs Baptist Church. She was a faithful Christian who prayed, read the Bible religiously and could not wait to get to Heaven to meet the Lord!

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful team of
Unit 1 nurses at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center who took care and helped her during the last part of her life.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 14, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lotz Vinton Chapel.
