Linda Kaye Mullins Karnes, 72, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence A. and Josephine C. Mullins and brother, Roy Edward Mullins.

Surviving to cherish her memory are son, David Randall Karnes (Cindy); granddaughters, Jessi and Jenni Karnes; step-granddaughter, Christi; great-granddaughter, Annabel; sisters, Myrna Trussler and Jean Schneider (Curtis); brother, Teddy Nelson Mullins; former husband and friend, Joe Karnes; special friends, Wayne (Ralphie) Slusher, Maurice (Sparky) and Jeff Ferguson; also many nieces, nephews, sister-cousins and friends.

Linda worked for Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, Roanoke Valley Mental Health Services, Children’s Specialty Services, eventually retiring from Roanoke City Health Department. She was known far and wide as a lover and protector of all animals, especially her beloved cats. She always referred to herself as a “Free Spirit” and lived life her way.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Lotz Vinton Chapel. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, April 10, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Angels of Assisi or the ASPCA.
