Karen Denise Brown

Karen Denise Brown, 66, of Blue Ridge, went to be with Jesus on September 3, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family. Although Karen never had any children, she possessed a loving Mother’s heart. She was instrumental in helping to raise five children who still call her Momma: Paul Michael, Bonnie, Roxanne, Lisa and April. Karen served her country in the US Army for 8 years where she obtained the rank of a Sargent and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. She had planned to make a career out of her military service but unfortunately an accident cut her career short. She was honorably discharged in 1990. Karen was an active member of the Combat Veteran’s Motorcycle Association and an active member of the Veterans of Viet-Nam Motorcycle Club. She was a major contributor to multiple charities. She and Jerry met in 1996 in Louisiana while they were both working at Lockheed Martin. They were married 4 years later. In 2008 they moved to the top of a mountain in Blue Ridge, VA. Together they cleared the land, made ATV riding trails, planted flowers, a garden and raised honeybees. They fed the wildlife and captured too many feral cats to count. Every cat was taken to the Vet, spayed/neutered, and returned to their land on the mountain where they were taken care of. Karen loved to travel. She and Jerry had traveled the world. She loved the beach and mountains. She loved riding motorcycles with Jerry, and she loved animals. Karen was one of the kindest people you could ever meet and would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and she and Jerry were both baptized in 2019 by Pastor Corey Smallwood.
Surviving family includes her husband of 24 years, Jerry Brown; step-children, Paul Michael, Bonnie, Amanda, and Krissy; brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Robin Hamilton; her best friend, Renota, and too many other friends to list. Karen was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Rose Brown. She also leaves behind Jesse who was a wonderful neighbor and friend to her.

A memorial service will be held September 17, 2023 at 2pm at New Life Baptist Church in Fort Defiance, VA. Online condolences may be made at www.lotzfuneralhomevinton.com
