Obituary
Jerry Edward Austin, age 74, from Myrtle Beach, SC (previously Roanoke, VA) passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 at MUSC in Charleston, SC after a long battle with heart disease. He passed away peacefully with his wife of 53 years, Rena, by his side. He was born February 24, 1949, to the late Edward Odell and Virginia Smith Austin of Roanoke, VA.
Jerry was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke, VA and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 32 years of service. Jerry loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He was an avid reader of westerns, he enjoyed baseball and college football, his favorite team being the Virginia Tech Hokies. He also loved his two dogs, Annie and Pepper, taking them for walks down to the Intercoastal Waterway and for rides in the car.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Rena Austin, of Myrtle Beach, SC; his twin sister, Sherry Bryant (Mike) of Botetourt, VA; his brother Wayne Austin (Marion) of Lynchburg, VA; his sons Jerry Austin II (Christie) of Blue Ridge, VA, Greg Austin (Ashley) of Roanoke, VA, and Tommy Austin (Karolina) of Largo, FL.; six grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, J.T., Blake, Tayler, and Dominic; two great-grandchildren, Holdyn and Ainsley; a cousin that was more like a sister, Aleta George; a very special sister-in-law, Ann Pearre, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Lotz Vinton Chapel. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Whitney Edwards-Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
