Janet Evelyn Jefferson, 79, formerly of Lynchburg, departed this life on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton. She was born in Roanoke on November 26, 1942. She was predeceased by her father, Paul Alexander Jefferson and mother, Mary Elizabeth Jefferson, and her brother, Melvin E. Jefferson.
Surviving family includes her sister, Jo Ann Jefferson; brother, Paul Allen Jefferson; several nieces and nephews, including Deborah McCormick with who she enjoyed a close relationship and a special friend and caregiver, David Manley of Lynchburg.
While living in Atlanta, Ga. in the 1970’s, Janet earned her real estate license and established her own business in apartment locating and roommate sharing. Janet was honored by being voted one of the top ten young business women of Atlanta in 1972. She began her college education at Averett College in Danville, Va. and later received her Bachelor of Arts degree at Randolph Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg. In 2006.
A private graveside service for Janet will be held in Danville, Va. The Jefferson family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Varna Sellers and her staff at the Pace Agency in Lynchburg and to the Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton for the care shown to Janet during her illness and declining health.
