Obituary
On the morning of October 15, 2021, at 98, Helen Koerner Foutz of Goodview, VA left her Earthly home to be with Jesus. She was preceded in death by her husband James Edward Foutz. She is also preceded in death by her parents, John and Maude Koerner and her two brothers, Jack Allen Koerner and Tom Allen Koerner. She is survived by her 3 loving daughters and son-in-laws, Marie Shealy and Dale Shealy, Dot Wolfe and Mike Wolfe, and Joan Colwell and Steve Colwell. She was also a foster mother to numerous children over many years. She has 6 grandchildren, Isaac Colwell (Katie Colwell), Ben Colwell (Jane Colwell), Erin Jones (Larry Jones), Mark Colwell (Emily Colwell), Katie Noell (Randy Noell), and David Colwell (Nicole Colwell) who will cherish their memories with her dearly. Helen was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Shufelt, Aidan Doyle, Katherine Colwell, Peyton Noell, Kennedy Noell, Audrey Colwell, Alice Colwell, Reid Jones, Natalie Colwell, and Raylee Noell.
Helen spent 24 years of her life serving as secretary at Stewartsville Elementary school, making her well known in the community. She was Godly, feisty, opinionated, gave tough love, told it like it was, gave freely to all in need, and loved with all her heart. She lived a full life of church, fishing, reading, and being with her family. She has always loved Moon-pies, Pepsi, bright flowers and blooming trees, gospel music, the beach, and sitting outdoors at the gazebo.
Ten years ago, Helen wrote these words in a photo memory book made of her life: “I am at this time, coasting with time. I never dreamed I would last this long. All my people died at an early age, but I am eagerly awaiting the next stage of my life, eternity, it will be great. Love, Mama”
There will be no viewing or funeral for the public. The family will have a private ceremony, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
