Gene Autry Henegar

Gene Autry Henegar Sr., age 77, of Vinton, passed from this world of the dying to that World of the Living with his family by his side on Monday, October 1, 2018. Gene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bess; his precious children Robert (June), Joyce (Vernon), Gene Jr. and Buddy (Courtney) and many Grandchildren. Sandra’s daughter, Debra, who is as close as a daughter. One sister, Gladys Pace, one brother-in-law, David McCrickard. Several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie; father, George Henegar; daughter, Sandra Parcell and several brothers and sisters.

Gene is retired from Vinton Weaving Mill after 44 and ½ years plus tax. He held the rank of Sargent in the Virginia National Guard, 29th Infantry Division, Blue and Gray; proud to serve his country and provide for his family . Gene was a member of Church at Grandin Village where he loved all of his church family and friends. He loved to spend time in his garden. He also loved to fish. Gene was the most generous and loving man you could ever meet.

A celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.lotzfuneralhomevinton.com.
