Freddie Lynn Hodges

Freddie Lynn Hodges, 71, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, Saint Lewis Hodges and Maudie West Hodges, and brothers, Eddie Lewis Hodges and Benjamin Lee Hodges.

Surviving family includes a sister, Betty Mills Etling; brothers, Roger N. Hodges, Sr. and wife Phyllis, and Michael W. Hodges and wife, Carolyn, and several nieces and nephews.

Freddie was a loving son and brother and loved to laugh and joke and could be very comical. He loved hunting and fishing with his brothers, playing his guitar, and just being a jokester. He did very well in high school with A’s and B’s until his 17th birthday when mental illness took over his life. Throughout the remainder of his life he lived in four different assisted living facilities and for the last five years he lived in Martinsville, Va. There he was given a place to live by Lotisha Palmer who we are very thankful for the help she provided for our family and Freddie. He had a very close friend during his last five years, Thomas Slodyins, his caretaker. They played games, watched movies together, joked with each other, and laughed and cried together. We thank God for Tom and the friendship he built with Freddie. We thank each and every one who had a part in Freddie’s life and he is now in the presence of God.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon at the Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton wit Pastor Mark Manning officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare in Roanoke, Va.
