Elmon Leon Kelley, 78 years old, Died Sunday, September 26, at 2 A.M., of COVID-19 and health complications, at Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem, Virginia. Elmon was a sweet, serving, kind, and giving soul. The second son of the late Dalton Brammer Kelley and Mary Hannah Martin, Elmon had seven siblings.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Engle Kelley, their son, Ricky Lee Kelley, brothers Roger Bains Kelley and Ronnie Ray Kelley, and sisters Julia Kelley Yates, and Mary Alice Kelley Kays.
Surviving family members include his brother, Russell Brammer Kelley and his wife, Judy; sister, Alpha Kelley Bower; and sister, Ginger Kelley Walker, her husband, Wayne, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elmon graduated from William Byrd High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the VietNam era. He retired as a meat cutter at Winn Dixie and was working at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton at the time of his death.
The family thanks the doctors and nurses at Lewis Gale Hospital for caring for him and also the loving, kindhearted friends at Friendship Living Center, Roanoke. Special thanks go to his sister, Alpha Kelley Bower of North Carolina, who helped care for Elmon, and to Pastor Rodger Hogan and members of the Midland Baptist Church, Vinton, Virginia, for their support, prayers and encouragement.
