Daniel “Gil” Stevens, 95, of Vinton, left this earth on Monday, January 21, 2019 to hold his wife’s hand in Heaven. Gil was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a native of Bedford County and received a Purple Heart for his military service during WWII. He retired from Singer Furniture and was a member of Saunders Grove Church of the Brethren. He was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Belva Brown Stevens; daughter, Linda; granddaughter, Angela Wingfield; son-in-law, Robert Wingfield; parents, Phillip and Vera Stevens, and siblings, Ethel Dooley, Johnny Stevens, and William Stevens.
Surviving family includes his children, Martha Wingfield, Daniel Stevens, Jr., Francis (Don) Hall, and Lillie Stevens; grandchildren, Denise (Donny) Hutson, Donna (Mark) Lynch, Cindy (Tony) Crouch, Timothy (Michele) Wingfield, Chad Jordan, Rob Jordan, and Melissa Stevens; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and one on the way; sisters-in-law, Peggy and Gladys Brown, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thank you to the families and volunteers Gil befriended while he spent his days with Belva at Springtree nursing facility, especially Butch and Beverly Ewers, and Paul and Alice Nixon, and to the many relatives and friends who visited with them over the last few years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Rev. Jeff Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
