Charles Michael “Mike” Leiner went to play on greener fairways on May 21, 2022 from his home in Blue Ridge, VA at the age of 62. Mike was born in Wilmington, NC in August of 1959. He met the love of his life Donna Hall in Columbia, SC where they were both working in a hospital. Mike went on to study nursing at Virginia Western and graduated in 1985. Mike had a warm spirit and his joy was infectious – which made him an excellent nurse and caregiver to countless patients across Virginia. Mike loved his work helping others, working in his yard, golfing, and spending time with friends and family whom he adored. He will be remembered as a loving and giving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, papa, care provider, golf competitor, and friend. Mike will be deeply missed by anyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Mike is preceded in death by his brother Carlton “Bert” Leiner. Mike is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years Donna Hall Leiner; his parents Joyce and Ludwig Leiner; sons Charles Derek Leiner (Kathleen) and Carlton Wray Leiner (Elizabeth); grandchildren Winslow and Anneliese; sisters Sharon Supplee (Donny), Suzanne Wenzell (John), and Beth Hollis (Rob); Sisters-in-law Beth Swindler Leiner and Cindy Field; many dear nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 6 PM, Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Lotz Funeral Home in Vinton, VA. Funeral Services for Mike will be held 11 AM, Friday, May 27, 2022 also at Lotz Funeral Home officiated by pastor Rick Via. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, 1250 E Main St, Salem, VA.
