Obituary

Albert "Jack" Powers, age 94, of Blue Ridge, Virginia was very well thought of in the area. He was a devoted husband to his wife Edna, father to his children and grandfather to his grandchildren. He was active in so many ways. He was employed by Norfolk and Western Railroad for a while, before continuing his career with Holdren's Appliance, where he later retired.
He was a part-time farmer and loved his cows, making hay and gardening with his wife Edna and son and daughter in-law,, Carl and Louise. One of his favorite hobbies was coon hunting but most of all he enjoyed going to the Hollins and Spring Lake Stock Yards.
He will be missed by his loving wife Edna, his children and grandchildren. We know he wanted to go to his heavenly home and he's happy now.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 74 years, Edna Saunders Powers; son, Carl Powers (Louise); daughters, Carolyn Simmons (Garland), Connie Harmon and friend, Wayne Coppola: grandchildren, Todd Powers, Angela Harless (Tim), Shannon Simmons (Lillian), Aimee Simmons and friend, Ben, Chad Simmons and wife, Michelle, Amber Ungerank (Cody); great-grandchildren, Hunter, Christian, Savanna and Madison Simmons, Isaiah Saunders, Nevaeh Jenkins, Paris Goggins, Jaden and Arianna Simmons, Abel Ungerank; great-great grandchildren are Levi and Aubree Simmons, Kinslee McNeely and Ayvah Gillespie.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Lotz Vinton Chapel from 6-8 p.m. A service will be held on December 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Lotz Vinton Chapel. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association.
