Carson Berkley Stevens

November 25, 1930 ~ February 10, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Carson Berkley Stevens, 86, of Roanoke, changed his address to Heaven on Friday, February 10, 2017. He was born to the late Samuel and Annie (Holdren) Stevens and was the 11th of 15 children. Berkley was known by many names: CB, Carson, Shorty, Dad, Papa, PawPaw, Pops, and most affectionately by many as “Daddy Buck”. He worked and retired from General Electric and then worked 15 more years at the Kroger in Bonsack. Life seemed to have made full circle for Berkley from his family farm days to the produce department at Kroger. He also pastored Ninevah Church in Hardy for 17 years and will be best remembered by his love for his Savior and his gentle caring heart for people. He seemed in his element at the hospital or funeral home and seemed gifted with the right words of compassion and cheer. Many lives can testify to his many acts of kindness and help. Berkley will be remembered for his $2 bills and homemade cakes. He loved to read and to learn. He was a good conversationalist and seemed to never meet a stranger. Truly a friend to many and will be sorely missed. He was predeceased by three brothers and 12 sisters.
Surviving family includes his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Graham Stevens; children, Regina (Terry) Johnson of Morehead City, NC and Tim (Tina) Stevens of Whitsett, NC; grandchildren, Terry (Erica) Johnson, Jr. of Princeton, NC, Katie (Daryl) Rackley of Greensboro, NC, Luke (Amanda) Johnson of Lincolnton, NC, Joshua (Cara) Johnson of Valdosta, GA, Candace (Kenneth) Myrick of Whitsett, NC, Caleb Stevens of Whitsett, NC, and Caroline Johnson of Morehead City, NC; great-grandchildren, Lucian, Aubrey, Brayden, Gwen, Landen, and Hannah Grace Johnson, Hadessah, Adalai, Rucker, and Adara Rackley of Greensboro, NC; brother, Kenny (Alice) Stevens; sister, Carlie (Charles) Woods; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends, Dwayne and Angel Rhodes and Landen.
Special thanks to Kenny and Alice Stevens, and Carol Weeks for their many acts of love over the past few years. To all the dear folks who provided transportation for Dorothy. To the pastoral staff of Colonial Baptist for your prayers, visits, and support. To the nursing staff on 4th floor at Friendship Manor Dependent Living for all their tender loving care, and to the Roanoke County Firehouse #14 on Mecca for the many ways you have helped. We appreciate them more than we can say.
