Alfred William Dillon, 81, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley Dillon.

Surviving family includes sons, Lyle “Jay” Dillon (Raye) and Carl Dillon (Donna) both of Troutville, Dave Dillon (Jordian) of Salem, and Darrell Ashbrook of Roanoke; daughter, Lisa Smith (Bobby) of Roanoke; grandchildren, Rawley Dillon (Sarah), Amy Dillon (John Cook), Brandy Dillon, Luke Dillon, Andy Dillon, and David Dillon. Al was also a great-grandpa to several. There are also a lot of people who were instrumental in his life and meant a lot to him. Thank you from Al and his family. Kelly Wright, you know he loved you like a daughter. Mike and Jenny Bryant, you were a God send to him, he loved you both. Frank Gravely was there with Al for over 30 years. Bo, he was happy to have you in his life and knew you would take care of his "daughter". Doug, thanks for making sure he made those special meetings. Dad also respected Jerri L., Kenny W. and Wayne E.

Al proudly served his country in the U S Army during the Korean War. He was instrumental in helping others for the last 30 years as a sponsor and friend to hundreds of people in AA. His life was filled with hope of a bright future for all who seeked the “higher power”.

A gathering of friends to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 2 PM till 6 PM at Lotz Funeral Home’s Vinton Chapel
